Activity: ICC Cheer
DATE: September 14th, 2017 Learning Outcomes: 2. Demonstrate that challenges undertaken developing new skills in the process. 4. Show commitment to and perseverance in CAS experiences. 5. Demonstrate the skills and recognise the benefits of working collaborative. I had been part of the ICC Cheer team for the last two years, and I'm very proud that I was part of the cheer group. In terms of learning new skills, cheer was a very meaningful activity for me. This is because by doing cheer, I could spend some time and get along with the girls from my prom that I normally don't talk to at school. Before doing the cheer, I was not so good at starting up a conversation first with a person that I don't usually talk to. During the cheer, even though it was challenging for me to start up a conversation since most of the conversations between the girls were being done in Spanish(which I was not so good at at the beginning), I tried to talk with them and be part of them little by little. This actually helped me in terms of interacting with people; now I would not hesitate to go and start up a conversation with a person or a peer who's new to our school. I was able to grow personally thanks to this activity; it made me get out of my comfort zone and take risks. Being part of this group did not just mean that I would be stomping, clapping or dancing. It required a lot of commitment and perseverance to attend every single practice that happened on a daily basis, putting my full effort while I had other things to put effort into as well. The practices usually lasted until 6 or 7 pm, so it was like past 8pm when I got home. I thought of quitting it so many times, since I couldn't get used to the circumstances where everyone spoke Spanish and having to stay there for hours, giving up times for my own self and my studies. But every time I thought about it, I reminded myself that all these efforts would later be paid back, and that it's good that I'm challenging myself. I endured the time, and the reward was our amazing performance. As a team, we faced challenges such as learning difficult steps, coordination, stunt, etc. To learn the difficult stomps, we collaborated as a team and worked hard until everyone got it. We were separated into groups and worked on certain steps, and we constantly went over all the cheer section to see and work on the coordination. We all worked and collaborated as a team, therefore we were able to succeed in the actual performance and ICC.
