After reading the graphic novel we created a graphic novel based on the book that we were reading. I was reading a book called by S. J. Kincaid, and I chose the scene where Tom asks Neil if he can join the army and Tom finally goes join the army even though Neil said he couldn’t. I chose to do that scene, because I thought I’d be able to include some of the graphic novel devices well. For example, in the first panel, I closed up Neil’s mouth to show that what he’s saying is important. And also, in the sixth panel, I repeated the phrase “I bet this is why mom left us” several times, but in different ways, like “I bet this is why mom left us. Mom left us. Why mom left us. Left us. I bet this is why mom left us.” to show that Tom just re-remembered the the truth that his mom is gone and is blaming his dad for it. And in the last panel, I used gutter to show that both BAM scene and Neil-with-disappointed-face scene happened at the same time, but they’re at the opposite side.
